Roll Roll Cotton Boll, Take 2 plus Clue 3

Clue number three, 64 winged units of green and background, attached to 64 rust triangles. Here is our Monday linky.

With clue three in hand for Easy Street we are up to 1732 pieces and I've barely made a dent in my selected fabrics! According to the math wiz Jan in TN we will have 45% of the components done.

My self imposed learning task this mystery is remembering to do leaders and enders when starting and stopping rather than a raggedy little piece of fabric. My project is three inch nine patches for my big brother. They have a California King bed, so I expect it will take an enormous number of these  little blocks.

This is the front and the back of what will be a  comfort sized quilt when I finish quilting it, 70" X 50". This was a second RRCB, -> -> ->
(number one is a few posts back) and my choice of colors was unfortunate, what was I thinking with all the grey and brown?(Sarah reminded me in comments that I picked them based on the horrific tsunami in Japan--now it does make sense)

and I managed to use up some of the leftovers on the back. I'm happy with these two pieces, and only have about 400 half square triangles left to use up.

  1. I think they both look great. Your RRCB puts me in mind of my blue one, they are a similar value. I guess I had a senior moment today, I went and got my hair cut and forgot that today was clue 3 day. I've had a lot on my mind with my husbands health issues. Anyway, I haven't done a thing on it, but tomorrow is a new day. I'm reminding myself of a poster that was on the drug store lunch counter wall when I was a young'un. "Work fascinates me, I could sit and watch it for hours". That's what I plan to do tonight if I don't nod off. I'm going to see why everyone likes to watch Bonnie work and try to catch her quilt cam. Do you remember when drug stores had lunch counters, or are you too young.

  2. I don't think the colors are bad. The darker background makes your brighter colors really come forward.
I love the back too. What you actually have is a reversible quilt!

  3. I think your quilt is interesting - it's modern looking. And the backing is fabulous. Love pieced backings!

  4. Thanks for stopping by ladies! all my quilts are reversible, 2 quilts and you only have to find space for one.
Candace, The last 18 months here have been designed in Hades I think so I certainly understand spacing out. Woolworths lunch counter had the best burgers, but the SandH Kress had the neatest little silver holders for that pointy paper cup...now people seem to all be drinking out of barrel sized containers!

  5. I don't think the colors are unfortunate at all. The intricate piece work is very impressive. Beautiful!

  7. That was the tsunami inspired one, if I remember correctly! It was nothing short of perfect, in that context! I was wondering how it would resolve...Great job, Sharyn!
Weinstock's in Sacramento had the best chili and corn bread. I was just thinking about that a couple of days ago! Too bad they closed!

  10. Thanks for commenting on my blog. I agree it will be sad when this is all done! I'm really enjoying the experience of visiting everyone's blogs on the link-up.

I had a look at your other blog and enjoyed your chicken toys. I must admit I'd never thought of giving our girls toys to play with.

I like the dark tones of your RRCB - the colours are luminous in contrast to the greys.

  11. Hi Sharon

Your piecing looks wonderful and obviously you have a wonderful spot to sit and stitch. I too look out on garden and it is so relaxing.

I have four boys so the dark colours of the other quilt would suit them perfectly.

I am enjoying this mystery so much. Its great to chat to quilters from all over the world!

    Cheers, Maree

  13. Loving that rich forest green for the ES pieces! The RRCB is lovely and I really like using another quilt top or a pieced back so you get two-for-one as well.
